I hear the same new affiliate stories over and over so I thought I would write a short post about what you need to avoid if you’re a new affiliate. The 800 pound gorilla in the space is google adwords. It seems that any new affiliate thinks the only way to make money is by opening a new adwords account, load it with money, and sit back and watch the money roll in.
This is of course the worst thing you can do. It’s not to say advertising on google does not have its place, but unless you know what you’re doing you will burn your account up very quickly, become frustrated and more than likely quit and move on. Where most new affiliates make the mistake is by entering the most popular niches like weight loss, financial leads, etc. that have some very deep pockets, and years of advertising experience behind them. I really think new affiliates should shy away from Adwords Period, and focus on Yahoo, and Bing(formerly MSN Live). There is much less competition and click prices are lower while still providing a decent amount of traffic. Better yet click here and read the program that gets very quick traffic results, by avoiding the new affiliate trap altogether.

Yeah PPC is not something to just jump right into for sure. I lost a ton of dough before I figured it out, but that was years ago. Staying away from google is good advice for the newbie. I still start all my campaigns with yahoo and bing then scale to google if the campaign is profitable on those platforms.
